I have a 2005 Infiniti G35 with about 45,000 miles on it. My mechnanic said the power steering fluid looked dark and should be changed. Does that sound right? How oftent does power steering fluid need to be changed?
once ever 10 or 15 yrs ive been driving over 35 yrs and working on cars as about as long ive never change any and i still work at a shop really just another way to get your money.. just wait til a hose break and change it then. my car has over 200,000 and has not been change yet and stil turns just fineHow oftent does power steering fluid need to be changed?
typically, the fluid is replaced at a rate that is sufficient to sustain the requirements of that fluid. most power steering systems leak. i have however done this on my car once. but i have not ever seen a recommendation for it. because of the pressures developed in that system ( greater than ANY OTHER in your car including the engine or transmission), this pressure causes heat. heat brakes down fluids. i am not sure why he want to flush the fluid at 45k miles though. cars from 2000 and up yes u do have to flush the power stering fluid here in virginia is every 30,000 milles. this is because now everything comes w/ sensor also if u don't do it u can get more problem in u brake sistem... oh i know this cuz i work for a dealer ship in va How oftent does power steering fluid need to be changed?

Generally never! As stated above, power steering fluid works good and lasts a really long time, better off changing your mechanic! How oftent does power steering fluid need to be changed?
